Educators from IMSA North and West Collaborate and Prepare for the Upcoming School Year.

Teachers from Indiana Math and Science Academy North and West Unite for a Day of Professional Development - July 25, 2024

On July 25, 2024, educators from Indiana Math and Science Academy North (IMSA North) and Indiana Math and Science Academy West (IMSA West) gathered for an impactful day of professional development. The event, hosted at IMSA North's campus brought together approximately 200 dedicated teachers, administrators, and staff members.

The day commenced with inspiring remarks from IMSA Regional Superintendent Mustafa Arslan, who celebrated the remarkable achievements of both schools. He highlighted their innovative curriculum development and impressive student performance in statewide assessments. A notable accomplishment mentioned was that black students at IMSA West surpassed the math and ELA proficiency rates of nearly every other district in Indiana.

Following his remarks, Dr. Zachary Paley, Regional Director of Teaching and Learning, outlined the key focus areas for the upcoming academic year, which include Improving Student Learning Outcomes and Early Literacy.

Adding to the day's insights, Dr. Kuran, Chief Academic Officer, celebrated the growth of the Concept Schools network. He discussed the significant milestones such as Cognia accreditation, the strategic growth plan, and the academic support provided to the IMSA team.

The professional development sessions were diverse and enriching, featuring workshops on integrating technology in the classroom, differentiated instruction techniques, and strategies for enhancing STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education. These sessions aimed to equip educators with the latest tools and methodologies to foster an engaging and effective learning environment.

Barbara Garrett, Principal at IMSA North, expressed the value of such collaborative events, stating, "It's incredibly valuable to exchange ideas with colleagues from IMSA North and West."

Throughout the day, Curriculum and Academic Directors from the Concept Schools Academic Department actively collaborated with teachers. Their efforts focused on refining the curriculum and integrating best practices and innovative teaching strategies to improve student learning outcomes across all grade levels.
